The Women and Water Networks (WWNs)

Objectives of WWNs
The major objective of WWN is to make the voices of women heard at various levels of decision-making.

An organized women’s voice in the water sector in each of the South Asian countries and a combined and strong South Asian women’s voice at the regional and international levels and active participation in the water management at the local, national and regional level.

50% representation at all GWP related bodies and fora.
The development of active groups of women in the water sector.
Promotion of viable models.
Functions of WWNs
Identification of women's organisations and women members, who can form a women's perspective on water and highlight (as well as seek to address) those issues that particularly effect women.

Development of country and South Asian perspectives (that can be effectively presented at regional and international for a)

Strengthening the role of women and women organisations in the planning, development and management in CWPs and AWPs and partner organisations at all levels.

Promote and strengthen empowerment of women in relation to water resource management 

Institutionalization of gender analysis at all levels of policy, planning programmes and project implementation.

Promote the incorporation of gender focus and women specific approaches and budgetary allocations in national, regional and sectoral policies.

Ensure the implementation of women focused approaches and budgetary allocations in CWP initiatives and programmes.

Evolution of WWN's as pressure and lobbying groups at various levels to address key water issues and problems related to women.

Federation of country WWN common issues to evolve a unified South Asian voice on women and water.

Sharing of information, experiences and good practices.

Meetings of these women and women organisations on the basis of Area Water Partnerships (AWPs), Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) and Regional Partnership (SASTAC).
