Report on Regional TOT on IWRM, Colombo 2004: A training programme on Regional ToT in IWRM was held at the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka from 7-14th November 2004. The main objective of the training was to strengthen the capacity of trainers in South Asia.

Regional Training of Trainers in Integrated Water Resources
Management
A training programme on Regional ToT
in IWRM was held at the Post Graduate
Institute of Agriculture, University of
Peradeniya, Sri Lanka from 7-14th November
2004. The main objective of the training
was to strengthen the capacity of trainers
in South Asia by providing them with
up-to-date knowledge on the principles of
IWRM and equipping them with innovative
training skills in IWRM. It will be used
as a platform to strategize actions for
the training of decision/policy makers and
water sector professionals at both the
national and regional level. |

Provide training for trainers on key principles and themes of IWRM. |

Enable trainers to adapt global training skills and methodologies to suit regional/local requirements. |

Enhance trainers' interactive ability to exchange experiences in water education, training and
research. |

Equip trainers with skills needed to prepare IWRM curriculum and tailor made training for decision/policy makers and sector practitioners on the applications of
IWRM, and enable the trainers to help strengthen their local capacity building networks
(CapNet-India, CapNet-Pakistan, etc). |

There were 26 participants from the region representing Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This activity was funded by the CAPNET, Sri Lankan Water Partnership, Global Resource Centre of the International Water Management Institute, Capnet-South Asia and the private sector institutions in Sri Lanka. The course was coordinated by Professor Nimal Gunawardena, the Country Coordinator of CapNet-Lanka. |
